Kadugli detainee transferred to Khartoum hospital

A woman detained without charge in South Kordofan by security forces has been transferred to a hospital in Khartoum after her health worsened allegedly due to torture.

Khadija Badr is one of dozens of women detained by authorities in Kordofan on various accusations of conspiracy or sedition. The plight of these women was raised during a parliamentary debate last week.

Her brother told reporters from Khartoum Teaching Hospital that his sister is not in stable condition and is suffering from an injury on her backbone as a result of torture in Kadugli two months ago. He said she has been imprisoned since November last year.

He added that his sister was initially sent to the police hospital in Khartoum but authorities there refused to admit her given her poor condition she was again referred to Khartoum Teaching Hospital after leaving Kadugli on 6 February.
