Torit women football club in Juba for tournament
Youngsters Women football club in Torit State left for the capital, Juba on Sunday to participate in the interstate soccer tournament starting today.
Three months ago, Youngsters Women were crowned champions of South Sudan cup in Torit, qualifying for zone one and two tournaments in Juba and Wau respectively.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj at Torit airstrip on Sunday, the state Information, Youth and Sports minister, Margret Idwa Okuye said Torit was taking part in the football tournament for the first time.
“I want to tell you that this is the first of its kind in Torit State. It was never even there in the former Eastern Equatoria. They are going to face other states within South Sudan cup tournament,” Idwa said.
“I am really impressed because these ladies have shown their talent right from the very beginning when they were playing with other teams. Youngsters became the champion right from the governor’s cup until this time. They are flying to Juba today [Sunday] to open the first match. It will be Torit vs. Juba,” she added.
On his part, the president of Torit Local Football Association, Juma Joe Adriano confirmed that Youngsters will face Juba on Tuesday.
“In Juba, it will be zone one and if they get good points, they are playing the final in Wau zone two. We have trust and confidence in our team because if they are the champions from here, it means it has all qualities to bring something back home,” Juma said.
Meanwhile, Youngsters Women football club captain, Nivella Itiara Anthony expressed confidence in all the upcoming matches.
“Our confidence is too great because from what I analyzed, we have speed for running and our defense is very strong. That is why we are going to benefit from more things on the field,” Itiara said.
Modi Gabriel Loboso, the assistant coach for Youngsters Women football club said the players are fully prepared for the tournament.
18 players, two coaches and five sports ministry officials left for Juba.
